Travel to Slovenia is about to become much easier from the US

Cycling in Slovenian Alps just got closer.

Travelling from the United States to Slovenia is about to become much easier. United Airlines will launch direct flights between New York/Newark and Ljubljana on May 12, 2027, creating a new non-stop connection between the United States and Slovenia.

The new route will connect Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) with Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU). United Airlines plans to operate the service four times per week, with flights scheduled between May and October. The route will be operated with a Boeing 767-400ER.

For American visitors, this removes one of the biggest inconveniences of travelling to Slovenia: the need to change planes at another European airport.

Fly to Slovenia and start your cycling holiday

The new route is particularly welcome news for cyclists and active travellers from the United States.

Ljubljana Airport is located right at the gateway to the Slovenian Alps. Bled, Kranjska Gora, Bohinj and the Julian Alps are all within easy reach, making it possible to fly directly from the New York area and begin a cycling holiday in Slovenia without another flight connection.

For guests travelling with Slovenia Bike Tours, the new connection will also make arrival and departure logistics significantly easier. Ljubljana Airport is conveniently located for transfers to many of the starting points of our cycling tours.

Slovenia is becoming easier to reach from the US

The new service comes at a time of rapidly growing American interest in Slovenia. More than 200,000 visitors from the United States travelled to Slovenia in 2025, generating almost 449,000 overnight stays. In the first seven months of 2026, US arrivals increased by another 23 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.

The United States has consequently become one of the most important long-haul markets for Slovenian tourism.

From May 12, 2027, getting here will be much simpler: board a plane in New York/Newark and fly directly to Ljubljana.

And from Ljubljana Airport, the mountains, lakes and some of Slovenia’s best cycling roads are just a short transfer away.
